Grey Eagle Resort & Casino: our review

Last revised · facts verified

Grey Eagle is owned and operated by the Tsuut'ina Nation on Calgary's south-west edge, and its 178-room hotel opened in 2014. Some rooms look west toward the Rockies, the 2,500-seat Event Centre books big acts and Little Chief ranks among the West's better casino restaurants. The pool, though, is shut during a renovation that runs into 2027.

Go for it if: Concerts in Calgary, or a launch pad for Banff and Kananaskis.
Think twice if: You need a pool this year — it's closed while renovations run.

Owned by the Tsuut'ina Nation

The Tsuut'ina Nation owns Grey Eagle and runs it. Gaming started in 2007; the hotel — six storeys, 178 rooms — had its grand opening on May 2, 2014. You're minutes from downtown Calgary here, and about 30 minutes from Kananaskis Country. No other casino hotel in our guide puts a big city and the mountains that close.

Rooms

Ask for the west side: the resort says some rooms face that way and, when the sky is clear, frame the Rockies. The others overlook the city. Room types are Standard King, Premier King and Standard Two Queen (the hotel suggests this one for families), plus a King Suite and the Presidential Suite, all described by the hotel as newly renovated.

Gaming

Space: 84,000 sq ft. Machines: 975-plus slots, playable 24 hours. Tables: 32, dealing from 10 am until 3 am, with high-limit rooms for baccarat, blackjack and more. Age: 18, per Alberta rules. The casino says phased renovation will continue through 2026–2027. Loyalty runs on Winner's Edge, the programme used across Alberta.

Event Centre

Capacity is 2,500 and every age is welcome. A 2024 upgrade brought in an L-Acoustics sound system, and the same year the YYC Music Awards named it Venue/Presenter of the Year. To bundle a show with a bed, the Concert Night Getaway package (two tickets plus one night) runs $329–$369.

Eating

Little Chief pairs Indigenous tradition with modern cooking, and both Avenue Magazine and the Calgary Herald have featured it. The Buffet, which is 18+, offers nightly features to December 31, 2026 and then closes for renovation in January 2027. Also on site: Blaze Bar & Grill, the Eagle Bar on the gaming floor, the Stage Bar (free weekend entertainment), and the Eagle Street Eats truck for Saskatoon berry dumplings, chili and bannock, and Indian tacos.

Swimming during the works

The renovation has shut the pool. Instead, hotel guests can use two City of Calgary pools, Glenmore and Killarney, at no charge. The sauna, the 24-hour gym and the outdoor hot tub carry on as usual.

More to do

Grey Eagle Cultural Tours offer visits on Tsuut'ina Nation, among them the Tsuut'ina Museum and a Buffalo Paddock Tour. Drive times: Calgary International Airport 30–45 minutes, Banff roughly an hour. Parking is free, and there's a dedicated floor for guests with pets.

Our call

For Calgary or the Rockies, this is the casino hotel to pick, and it's an excellent base for a concert. Just plan on the hot tub, not the pool, until the renovation wraps up.

Quick answers before you book

Can I swim at Grey Eagle right now?

Not on site — the pool is closed during the casino renovation. Hotel guests get free access to the city's Killarney and Glenmore pools.

Which Grey Eagle rooms have mountain views?

West-facing ones; the resort says they look toward the Rockies on clear days.

Is the Grey Eagle Event Centre for all ages?

It is. Only the casino carries an 18+ limit.
