Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto: our review

Last revised · facts verified

Woodbine's casino came back in 2023 as a full resort and the Toronto area's newest big one: 400 rooms, a theatre holding as many as 5,000, a pool with steam room and sauna, free parking and a free Pearson shuttle. Its operator claims a bigger slot choice than any other Canadian casino.

Go for it if: Fly-in weekends, stadium-size concerts and slot players who want the widest choice in the country.
Think twice if: You need more than 388 sq ft, or a view that isn't the track or the city's edge.

Built in 2023, built big

This is the former Casino Woodbine, reborn in two steps in 2023: phase one of the casino on June 20, then The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on August 1. Location: Etobicoke, alongside Woodbine Racetrack and a short drive from Toronto Pearson. Scale is the point — the operator says nowhere in Canada offers a larger selection of slot machines.

Rooms and suites

All 400 rooms and suites date from the opening. Four standard categories share one size, 388 sq ft: Premium King, Premium Two Queen, Racetrack King and Racetrack Two Queen. "Racetrack" rooms overlook the track, which Destination Toronto says is true of almost half the hotel. Accessible rooms have grab bars and 60-inch roll-in showers. For a family or a group, look at the 2-Bedroom Suite (sleeps six) or the Corner Suite (a king plus a queen sofa bed); each has a microwave and a fridge. Rooms come with NEST bath products, robes, blackout curtains, a coffee maker and a mini fridge.

Book only if you're 19 or older; children can share your room but not your access to 19+ areas. Arrival from 4 pm, departure by 11 am.

The floor

When it opened in 2023, Global News tallied 145 table games and 4,800 slots. The high-limit room by itself holds over 25 live tables, 210-plus slots and 15 multi-game electronic terminals for poker and blackjack. Hotel and casino never close. Sign up for Great Canadian Rewards at no cost once you're 19.

Concerts and racing

Galas fill The Theatre with 1,500-plus; concerts take it to 5,000. Tickets go through Ticketmaster and nowhere else. On the other side of the fence, watching the races at Woodbine is free on most days and parking there costs nothing; the fall meet listed racing until November 29, 2026.

Restaurants

The steakhouse, Copperhorn, is on the casino floor itself. Pizzaiolo bakes gourmet pies. Two noodle spots split Asian duty: Lobster Legend Noodle Bar, with Teochew and Western plates, and Chopsticks Noodlehouse. Casual, a gastropub, leans on local craft beer. In the Food Hall: Noodlebox, Tim Hortons and Mary Brown's Express. Drinks? Northern Lights Bar is 19+; the Lobby Bar Grab & Go lets everyone in.

Wellness

You'll find a gym, a steam room, a sauna, a hot tub and a pool — and on crowded days, the front desk may hand out pool times.

From the airport, by car, with pets

The free Pearson shuttle runs in two windows, 6 am–12 pm and 3 pm–9 pm; pick-up is post F3 at Terminal 1 arrivals or near gates B and G at Terminal 3. Drivers park free in a 3,800-space enclosed garage, or pay roughly $20 (Monday–Thursday) or $30 (Friday–Sunday) for valet. Dogs or cats — two at most, each under 50 lbs — cost $49 a night, plus a single $49 cleaning charge.

Labour dispute: what to know

Great Canadian locked out around 100 security officers, members of Unifor Local 1090, on July 23, 2026, and pickets went up outside the resort. Per an operating notice dated October 2, 2026, the casino and hotel remain open around the clock, restaurants keep normal hours, and vehicles cross the picket line at intervals of three minutes or less. Check the situation before you leave home.

Around Toronto, choose this one for a fly-in stay, a concert or the largest slot floor going. Expect new, efficient rooms rather than big ones; a Corner Suite buys you breathing space.
