Go for it if: A Fraser Valley evening of dinner and gaming.
Think twice if: Your plans include a swim or a stage show — neither is on offer.

What you're booking

Cascades opened in Langley City in May 2005 under Gateway Casinos. Beds are next door at the Coast Langley City Hotel & Convention Centre, renovated in 2018, with 77 rooms. The range: Coast King, Coast Two Queens, an accessible Queen with roll-in shower, a corner Queen with sofa bed, a Hospitality Suite (wet bar) and an Executive Suite (balcony).

Gaming

80,000 sq ft, 1,000-plus slots, 24-hour opening, plus roulette, blackjack, bingo and a poker room. There's no showroom any more: in 2018 the 420-seat Summit Theatre closed and became the bingo hall.

Eating and drinking

Gateway's signature brand, ATLAS steak + fish, is the main event. Match Eatery & Public House adds DJs and live music; The Breakfast Room is for hotel guests; and every Sunday from 11 am the convention ballroom hosts a brunch buffet. Glacier Bar keeps 11 am–2 am hours.

Useful details

No swimming pool — the hotel says so plainly — but the gym is open 24 hours. In at 3 pm, out at noon; parking free. Pets need pre-approval and cost $25 a night for one or $40 for two. Abbotsford airport is around 30 minutes by car and YVR about an hour; the Greater Vancouver Zoo and Fort Langley are both close.

Our call

A reliable local casino with a tidy small hotel beside it. It isn't in the same league as our top-ten resorts, and it doesn't claim to be.
